Report: Patrick Beverley To Undergo Surgery

After reports coming out a few days ago that Rockets guard Patrick Beverley might need surgery on his left knee, those reports can now be confirmed. Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical recently reported that Beverley will underdo surgery and be sidelined for three weeks.

Once again, injuries have cost Beverley time on the court. Since he joined the Rockets, he has only had one season where he played more than 60 games, which was last season. Before that, the most games he had played in a season were 55. Head coach Mike D’Antoni recently said that he expects Beverley to miss at least the first 20 games of the season. With the season less than a week away, there couldn’t be a worse time for Beverley to hear these news.

Beverley is currently the starting shooting guard. Now, it will be interesting to see who D’Antoni decides to put in that spot. While Eric Gordon would seem to be the most reasonable answer, D’Antoni has said that he prefer Gordon to be the sixth man for the Rockets the entire season. Newly acquired Tyler Ennis could possibly get the call to take over the position for the first few weeks of the season.

With Beverley now out for a few weeks, the guard position is something that the Rockets need to take a look at. With roster cuts coming this weekend, expect to see the team possibly leave a roster spot open in case they look to add another guard. Some of the current free agents are Kirk Hinrich, Mario Chalmers, and Jarrett Jack, who was recently waived by the Atlanta Hawks. Do not be surprised if one of these players is in the mix to sign with the Rockets.

Beverley is one of the hardest working players on the Rockets. It is sad to see injuries have to keep him sidelined once again. Hopefully after this, all of his knee issues will be behind him.
