The Rockets defeated the New York Knicks on Wednesday 118-99, fresh off of their loss to the Cavaliers on Tuesday. The Knicks came into the game with a 1-2 record after falling to the Pistons last night 102-89, a game in which Joakim Noah had one of the more embarrassing shots in recent memory:

This game was all Houston. The Rockets scored 32 or more in the first three quarters, holding the Knicks to 27 or under in every quarter. Montrezl Harrell got extended minutes due to Nene being out for rest, and he made the most of his minutes. In 27 minutes, Harrell dropped 17 points and collected 10 rebounds, both career highs.

The Rockets came out early to the tune of a 33-25 lead after the first quarter, in which James Harden got off to his normal hot start with 15 points and an emphatic Euro-step that left Derrick Rose stuck in his shoes. Ryan Anderson also hit two 3-pointers in the first quarter to add to the barrage.

The second quarter also belonged to the Rockets, as they outscored New York 35-26. In the key minutes with James Harden on the bench, Eric Gordon, Montrezl Harrell, Tyler Ennis, and Corey Brewer all hit shots before Harden checked back in with 5:23 to go in the half. The key here was the bench extending the lead from 8 to 13 with Harden sitting, something Houston hasn't done well this season. The Rockets would go into halftime with a 68-51 lead thanks to a Courtney Lee buzzer-beating 3-pointer.

The third quarter saw yet another offensive masterpiece from the bearded one, as he dished out 8 assists and hit two more 3-pointers, giving him a double-double in the third quarter. Montrezl Harrell caught several beautiful passes from Harden to even out the scoring for the Rockets and he finished the quarter at 13 points. Eric Gordon chipped in another two 3-pointers and had 18 points after the third quarter. The Rockets lead 100-78 after three.

The Rockets were in total control heading into the fourth, despite the lead dropping to 14 points at one point. James Harden actually checked back into the game with 8:18 left in the fourth, a couple of minutes earlier than his normal re-entry. But with the Rockets in total control, Mike D'Antoni wanted to close the game out early. The Rockets would do just that, as Harden connected on two more 3-point shots, one after a spin move froze Brandon Jennings in his tracks. Montrezl Harrell continued his solid performance, screening, rolling, and rebounding. The Rockets would pull the starters with about 4 minutes left in the game and would go on to win the game 118-99, thanks to yet another 3-point buzzer-beater by the Knicks.

James Harden finished with 30 points, 15 assists, and 6 rebounds in another MVP-like performance.

Game Ball

Tonight's game ball is going to Montrezl Harrell. In a spot-start, Harrell showed incredible poise playing Nene's role. In 27 minutes, Harrell finished with a double-double and was the recipient of a ton of fantastic passes from James Harden. Harrell posted career-high numbers and looked like an integral part of the offense, and for that, he deserves tonight's game ball.
