Well then!
The assumption behind this big board was that the Rockets may not even have to select a player from Tier 4, as someone from Tier 3 was likely to fall to them at number 17. It was being made purely as a precaution against:
Everyone from Tiers 1-3 being gone by pick 17 (unlikely)
The Rockets ranking these players differently and selecting someone I consider to be a reach (more likely).
Example: I hadn’t considered Josh Christopher a possibility at #24 last year
So essentially, Tier 4 was going to be a safeguard. Now it appears the Rockets will almost certainly be selecting at least one player from this tier considering they’ve just acquired the 26th pick from the Dallas Mavericks. This creates a new dilemma for the big board:
Tier 4 ends at 25 players and there’s no safeguard against Houston reaching for someone at #26.
I could create a Tier 5, but there’s honestly not enough time before the draft. Also, there are seldom more than 25 impact players in any given draft class. However, there will be a list of unranked honorable mentions at the bottom of this tier. I’ll commit to a deep dive if Houston happens to select a player that’s not on the big board.
Let’s finish strong.
